Movie Review: The Frenetic Action in 'Safe House'

There has been a slew of really interesting action movies this year - from the latest Mission Impossible and Sherlock Holmes - to the new ones like Contraband and  A Man On A Ledge.  Now comes, Safe House, the latest movie starrring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds and there's so much frenetic action happening here and what makes it more interesting is that it's set in Cape Town, South Africa.  Ryan Reynold's character even gets to speak a little Afrikaan!

Well, the story is simple and has been used many times before in other espionage type movies.  Denzel Washington's here character is an ex-CIA who has some information that could be damaging to his bosses - the corrupt ones, of course!  So, he was held in a 'safe house', guarded by Ryan Reynolds, to be questioned and extradited to the US - but all hell breaks loose since there are many other people who want that information.  And so the chase begins!  So hold your breath as they take you around Cape Town, from its streets to the football stadium, even to a township called Langa.  Of course, the good guys always have to win in the end so don't worry, this is not a European movie!

I love Ryan Reynold's acting here.  I rarely find his character vulnerble but here, you could really see how scared shitless he is since the enemy is continuously pounding on their heels.  Denzel is cool and confident as always, just the proper behavior for an ex-CIA top agent.  This is fine entertainment to watch on a weekend!
