Movie Review: The Classic Ghost Story of "The Woman in Black"

Since I am not a Harry Potter fan, I did not have the burden of having to distance the character played here by Daniel Radcliffe from his most famous role.  I just saw him as the widower-solicitor sent over to this really sad place to finish the paperwork of this recently deceased widow.

The movie is quiet most times as the director builds the suspense and introduces the spooky 'woman in black' slowly to us.  Its reliance on good, old-fashioned scary ghost stories works here as everything - from the setting, to the weird Victorian toys, to this large dark house, to this scary looking woman in black - all help in making my eyes squint a bit when the scene seems terrifying.  I love the ending too but I suggest you watch it yourself for that twist in the story.  Also, a lot of children suffer here and the reason you will know if you watch this movie.  The director's sparing use of color helps make scenes where blood is needed to look more scary since the gray dark palate clashes with red!

Well, bring someone to cuddle into since there are many scenes which will make you 'jump' - some unworthy, some satisfying.  As for me, I really had a spooky great time watching this!
