Supernatural beings like engkantadas are not uncommon in Pinoy folklore. I’m sure everyone has had his or her share of these stories growing up. Such is the premise of this indie movie, although don’t expect too much special effects because the effects here are the sex scenes that I think, are now de rigeur for any gay indie movie.
The story is simple, really. An engkantada (woods fairy) named Mercedita returns to a lakeside town (looks like Laguna de Bay to me) and then sleeps with all the leading men in the story, who in this movie, works as fishpen workers. There are some subplots, but who cares really. If this were a DVD, everyone would be forwarding to the sex scenes.
Verdict on the Sex Scenes: They were ok, nothing violent or mildly interesting.
What I Like: I like that the engkantada is a horny bitch! Of course, here, she’s supposed to be pure and virginal, when really, she’s a slut! And she sleeps with all the virile men in the cast! So you have man on woman, a ménage-a-trois of two men and the engkantada (again!), and another ménage-a-trois scene which all the gay men in the cinema were waiting for (yes, three virile men getting it on!!) - and it was quite clever for the screenwriter to reason out that it had to happen that way! The guys looked game for it though.
What’s More to Like: Everything plods on here, like most Pinoy indie movies, but another thing to like is Paolo Paraiso, who is hot as usual, although I don’t know why they always made him cry here – and the three fishpen workers are not bad either!! I mean, at least they look manly, and not like a twinkie. Marco Morales, who is a regular indie actor, has a very nice shot here after he does a bad thing to the engkantada. Less is more actually worked in that scene - and his body here even looks better than in his previous movies. The two other guys are new but they acquitted themselves well. They actually looked and sounded like fishpen workers. So just imagine them kissing each other!
Should you waste your 161 pesos on this: Why not? Marco and Paolo alone are enough reason to see this. Be forewarned though that there are more heterosexual sex scenes than gay ones, because there is actually no gay character in the movie.
